Backyards As A Venues

Higher gas prices, higher food prices, higher prices on pretty much everything, and suddenly a traditional wedding seems out of reach. Eloping is a viable option and an easy way to tie the knot. On the other hand, elopements can sometimes estrange the rest of the family; leaving mom and dad behind. Having a backyard wedding could save you thousands on your wedding costs. If you have a friend with a huge backyard or you've seen a big beautiful house on Airbnb that might work well. Hosting 50 - 100 guests in your backyard isn't as difficult as it might sound.

Backyard weddings are more intimate, as opposed to a venue which might cater to the masses. You don't get the big grand feeling of traditional venue but if you prefer intimacy and romance (like I do), then your backyard as a venue might be the ticket.

One of the main downsides to a backyard wedding is the weather. Often times larger venues have backups for weather issues. If you have a dining room or foyer large enough to host all the guests you plan to invite, then you have nothing to worry about. Just make the switch from outside to in if the weather threatens.

If there are no other areas to host your guests, then here's a great backup option for you. You will have to keep a close eye on your weather app and keep the phone number of a tent company handy. If it seems the weather might take a turn for the worst, then a few days before, get that tent ready. If you're expecting thunderstorms and heavy winds then... you might have to build an underground bunker or simply go for that wind-swept look for your wedding. j/k

But What About The Pictures?

All the images in these galleries were taken in someone's backyard. No big fountains or architecture but the natural beauty of nature.

A good photographer can make any venue work. I've shot a good share of backyard weddings and weddings in the park and all I really need is the couple. I've learned to create art in the most mundane places.

I can use small areas to create a romantic intimate look. If there is a part of the decor you'd love to see or show off then I'd find the best light and create artwork. I also love to venture around the house and find places of interest.

I found a blog post from the knot that has a ton of information and different decor ideas. Check it out: https://www.theknot.com/content/backyard-wedding-ideas
